Ernest and Anneke Robinson were overjoyed when they were able to bring their first child into the word, Matthew at Sept. 23, 1988.

Despite no complications thought pregnancy nor labor, Matt was born with many disabilities, impacting his life heavily. His brain suffered from getting enough oxygen and became permanently blind and was unable to move himself from the neck down.

When Matt was born, doctors told Ernest and Anneke that he would only have a few hours to live at most, but Matt fought against all odds that day, and continued to do so for the next 10 and a half years!

When Matthew was 10-and-a-half however, he sadly passed away after fighting so bravely for so long. His father wanted to give him the best departure from the world by building a gravestone that would capture everything that Matthew was and still is to them.

However, the doctors were left stunned when not only did he survive for more than a day, but carried on to live a healthy decade of his precious, full of love life!

Despite his paralysis, Matthew enjoyed doing what any other kids his age were doing and even picked up a few words to be able to communicate with his guardian angel parents!

He sadly passed away after 10-and-a-half love filled years on the gloomy day of February 21st, 1999. He passed away without plain during his sleep and he had a beautiful obituary written about him, as seen above.

His funeral was attended by hundreds of people that not only knew him and his family but others who wanted to show their love and support. The church services that day were attended by so many people that there wasn’t enough space for everyone to sit.

Shortly after Matthews passing, his father Ernest wanted to create him a gravestone like no other, that would truly depict the character and soul that Matthew was and still is to them and the world.

His gravestone lies at the Salt Lake City cemetery and can still be seen there today.

The gravestone shows a statue of Matthew, rising free of his wheelchair that he relied on everyday and reaching for the stars and heavens with a lovely smile, now “freed of his earthly burdens”.

His parents and everyone else said that they don’t feel sad anymore visiting his grave, because it has come a symbol of hope and inspiration to the hundreds of thousands who have passed by it and left with a smile.

Ernest and Anneke, Matthews dad and mom, went onwards to establish a charity in their late son’s name to help provide assistive equipment to others who may be living with disabilities and need help in their day to day lives. The charity, Ability Found, was founded in 2000 and helps those less fortunate, particularly those who have their ability move and live by themselves difficult.

And who more humbly life the world inspiring the hearts of men.
With heir legacy complete in love. They return home again to God.
To behold His face and be wholly healed in joy forever more.”

His parents, Ernest and Anneke say they have felt their lives change for the better because of there late son, and want to help as many people as they can in the world.
