Not everyone has the same idea of a dream home, everyone’s idea of comfort and living is unique and rarely do homeowners strive to make their home truly theirs. But Cam Kasravi and Connie Dewitt wanted a second go-to home far away from everything else, isolated in the Santa Cruz mountains. They looked at a variety of options on how to construct their cabin, looking at pre-made wooden houses and even considering building one from scratch, until they saw a feature about fully functioning houses made out of shopping containers.
They asked a close friend who is an architect to design them a modern home using shipping containers that would be great for the local environment and not to be too ‘outlandish’. With the help of many different teams, their entire shipping containers home was assembled in a mere 6 hours, but the interior and furnishings took almost a year to complete, since everything had to be adjusted to living inside a shipping container home.
Connie jokes that if a tree does fall on the home, “it will get a little dent and we’ll call the auto body shop to fix the house”.
