It’s rare to see Simon Cowell with a big smile, but even tougher to make him instantly fall in love a performance. 29-year-old Mandy Harvey has been deaf for 10 years now and has ups and downs on the way after she lost her hearing.
She suffered from a connective tissue disorder, and when she got sick the nerves in her ears detiorritated, leaving her completely deaf and relying on sign lanaguge and reading for her day to day life.
She was into music before she lost her hearing but gave it up, thinking that she couldn’t do it anymore. But she learned how to hone her skills and work with what life threw at her. She stands barefoot when she performs, allowing her to feel the tempo and the beat she’s singing to through the vibrations on the floor.
Her choice of song was one she wrote herself called “Try”. When asked what it was about, her response “After I lost my hearing, I gave up, but I wanted to do more with my life just give up”, leaving Simon Cowell smiling and praising her.
When she began singing, all the judges were thrown away at her beautiful voice, but none more than Simon who was visibly over the moon.
